PWH COLLEGE CHAPTERS

UMO PWH Chapter

UMPI PWH Chapter
Overview
Students at the University of Maine at Orono, the University of Maine at Presque Isle, the University of New England in Biddeford and the University of New England Portland have established PWH Chapters at their schools. Several other colleges and universities are in the process of establishing chapters. The students participating in the PWH Chapters care about both protecting our environment and about helping those less fortunate in the world.
Each PWH Chapter:
- arranges and collects medical supplies from local hospitals and delivers them to a local PWH warehouse
- provides education on global health to their community
- travels to the Portland office once a month to volunteer in the warehouse
- runs a Mobility Drive or a Crutch Drive annually
- fundraises $10,000 to send a shipment to a country of their choice
Members of these chapters are eligible to apply for travel on our Medical Mission trips, which is an amazing opportunity at the collegiate level.
The colleges and universities listed below are in the process of establishing PWH Chapters as of the fall of 2015:
Bowdoin College
St. Anselm's School of Nursing
Tufts School of Medicine
Cheverus High School is also working to establish a chapter.
If your school isn't listed here and you'd like to start a PWH Chapter, please email us and we'll help you get started.
.
The University of Maine Orono Chapter holds a Global Health Education Series much like the one held at the South Portland office. On the second Wednesday of the months of October, November, December, February, March and April, a medical professional who has provided healthcare in a developing country will give a presentation about his or her experience. These interesting and informative presentations are free and open to the public.
